🌟ABOUT ME🌟

My name is Rita, and I am a Canadian of Ugandan descent. I grew up in Toronto, Canada, and moved to Japan almost 7 years ago. After 3 years of living in Japan, I developed Marché Noire.

When I first moved to Japan, I could not find any stylists to do my hair. Part of this was because I did not know so many people, so I could not really ask anyone. The other reason was that even though there are stylists and salons, they were not so easy to find.

So, I did what many people do in my situation, I started to do my own hair. While my skills improved over time, it was not the same as going to a professional stylist.

At the same time, I have met other people in similar situations. Some were non-Japanese like me, others were Japanese of mixed ethnicities, and others were parents of children of mixed ethnicity, (unfamiliar with caring for Afro-textured hair).

We all do our best with the tools we have, YouTube videos, sourcing products from outside of Japan, and finding hairstyles that we can style/maintain ourselves.

🌟Inspiration behind Le Marché Noire Hair🌟

Even though my skills improved, it’s still not the same. There is the magic that stylists/barbers have, that feeling when you walk out of the salon, your head held high, and a lightness in your step.

“They say that your hair is “the crown that you wear”, and everyone deserves to feel and look their most beautiful with their natural curls, coils, & waves.”
